We have been very lucky to recruit John Lines to assist your children safely across the road at the beginning and end of their school day.
Can I please respectfully ask that all drivers and riders stop when a school crossing patrol shows the stop sign. If you do not you are actually breaking the law.
Also can I please ask all drivers coming up Archenfield Road and Ashfield Park Road to always look left at the top before turning out onto the Walford Road as Mr Lines may be standing in the middle of Walford Road crossing children.
Please enjoy the following presentation that was produced by two of our students from Year 3. It seems a while ago that we had the freezing temperatures, but during the first Friday of the term after the heavy snowfall our pupils were busy turning the event into a great learning opportunity.
We are pleased to be able to inform you all that we have a new “Parent Shelter” that is situated on our Early Years and Key Stage 1 playground. The new shelter is designed for all types of weather and is funded via the school travel plan, which encourages pupils where appropriate to walk to school. Please feel free to use this facility where appropriate.
The structure will also be used by the staff team at the school for outdoor learning and I know that our Nursery pupils have already had a visit there today.
It is vital as schools that we try and give you the information regarding any snow closure as soon as it is practically possible. Early this morning we had unforeseen problems with the school website, where we are updating information of this nature.
Despite the best efforts of two members of the staffing team and two technicians who worked solidly for over 3 hours on the website from 6.40am in the morning the information was unable to be uploaded to the site. I would therefore like to apologise personally today for any inconvenience that has been caused by this problem, I know from experiences earlier this week that the radio stations had similar difficulties with their own web pages. I have also experienced problems updating the Blog this morning which has also not helped.
The Herefordshire Council website, BBC Hereford and Worcester and Radio Wyvern all worked effectively today in getting the information across. In addition this morning we had a member of staff available to answer the telephone from shortly after 8AM and two local members of staff who live within walking distance at the school gate.
My advice for Thursday morning is to access the radio stations, their respective websites and our own website and communicate with friends via text and messaging. I have tried each day to make a decision before 7am where possible and will continue to do this in conjunction with the Chair of Governors.
The weather has been very challenging for us at school, as I am sure it has been for you. Please accept my apologies.
I would like to congratulate all the pupils at Ashfield Park Primary School for some excellent Christmas performances over the past two weeks, from Nursery all the way to year 6. The Hosanna Rock today showed how confident our pupils are in performing. Some of the harmonies were of the highest quality. Well done!
It was an absolute pleasure to watch our younger pupils perform the Christmas Story through “Whoops a Daisy Angel.” I have inserted a picture of 3 very wise men. Well done to our Early Years Nursery and Reception age pupils alongside our Year 1’s who kept parents, carers, grand parents, visitors and our staff very much entertained.
Please enjoy looking at the following photo of our Christmas lunch. It was a lovely event, with pupils from across the school sharing in the festivities.
A big thank you to Just Events and the staff team for all the work that went into this.
I have been speaking with Mrs. Yearsley and Miss. Taylor who have been looking with their classes at the Victorian school log books that we have at the school, this has created much interest and discussion amongst our Year 3 pupils. I thought I would share with you an entry from this day November 1883.
A good deal of confusion in school all day, owing to workman mending windows. One large pane was out all morning, making the room very cold. It would be well if windows could be mended when school is not assembled.
I was also amused this entry from 11th August 1880:
30 children absent this afternoon, that were present in the morning. Some girls who had finished their work in the Girls School met them on the way to school and told them it was a holiday.
I would like to encourage Year 3 pupils to come up with their own Victorian log entries for my Blog!
Please find the following video sequence of the Ashfield Park Talent Contest that was organised to raise money for Children in Need. Well done to all the participants.
